The True and Startling Story of Too Slim and the "Paul Is Dead" Rumor
Yes, it's true, and yes, I made it all up." said Too Slim, Riders' bass man and wise acre. See the made-up malarkey and the media whirlwind it caused for yourself at: http://michigantoday.umich.edu/2009/11/
hey yawl...Lady Cherokee here. I heard this Paul is Dead thang...I heard it was years a go, before my memory can kick in. Either way, if its the Paul I'm thankin of, he's alive n well...very well indeed.
Remember it well... Was a 9th grader in Battle Creek, Michigan and we spent a couple of hours in Speech class checking out all of your "facts" and placing a couple of calls (collect, of course!) to Apple Records in London.... They were NOT amused! :-) Good Job!!! Never would have dreamed a member of one of my favorite bands was behind it!
I remember it well. I was a freshman in college and he story swept the world and everyone was talking about it. The story didn't die. For years people looked at the album covers for new clues. It was fun even though we rather quickly realized it was just a tall tale.
I remember it too. While WKNR (Keener 13 a 5,000 Watt Dearborn, MI station) was going nuts with the story, I was working in the CKLW Newsroom (The Big Eight) which was the 50Kw Canadian station that was number 1 in Detroit. I went by the name Earle Frederics, CKLW 20/20 News.
I had to try to match the story which was being attributed to an unreachable author in the Michigan Daily and trying to piece it all together without quoting nor attributing WKNR.
As a longtime fan of Riders in the Sky, I am delighted to hear that it was someone as clever and funny as Too Slim was the prankster who contributed to my early hair loss.
